Alibaba Cloud expands data center to Korea and Thailand

Alibaba Cloud announced its plans to set up two new data centers in Korea and Thailand to help local companies run digital innovation. This was revealed by the company at the annual Apsara Conference 2021. In addition, Alibaba Cloud also launched various digital products and solutions.

The construction of new Alibaba Cloud data centers in Korea and Thailand is planned in 2022. These data centers will serve as the backbone of infrastructure in supporting digital economic activities in the country, including the journey of local companies in digital transformation.

Local businesses in Korea of all sizes will be able to deploy critical workloads while enjoying more reliable, low-latency cloud services. Meanwhile in Thailand, the data center will offer a variety of products and solutions that are in line with Thailand 4.0 - the Thai government's 20-year strategy to promote digital innovation and sustainable technology development.

“As one of the world's top three cloud service providers, we are committed to bringing world-class, large-scale cloud infrastructure to Korea and Thailand, so that we can help local businesses be at the forefront of digital transformation,” said Selina Yuan, General Manager of International. Business, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

"With our business insight and experience in serving global customers, we are confident that we can help local customers in Korea and Thailand meet their business digitization needs in terms of technology and service."

To complement its infrastructure investments, Alibaba Cloud has also launched technologies, products, and solutions to make public cloud systems more accessible to enterprises and developers, through efforts to improve security, availability, and adaptability in native cloud systems and on-premise environments.

ApasaraCompute Shenlong Architecture

Alibaba Cloud also launched the fourth generation ApasaraCompute Shenlong Architecture which has leading capabilities in terms of container elasticity, storage, Input and output (IO) performance, latency, and security chip with hardening features.

The self-developed Shenlong architecture has been updated to support data-intensive applications, with Input/output Operations Per Second (IOPS) storage increased by 300% to 3 Million IOPS, Packets Per Second (PPS) network increased by more than 100% to 50 Million PPS. Meanwhile storage and network IO latency was lowered to 30 and 16 microseconds, respectively.

In the 4th generation Shenlong architecture, Alibaba Cloud also launched the industry's only large-scale Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) network with latency as low as 5 microseconds, which is able to further accelerate data-intensive applications in the cloud. For example, the updated Shenlong architecture with RDMA can improve computing performance in data-intensive AI and big data splash scenarios by 30% compared to the performance of mainstream Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) networks in the cloud.

To support enterprise hybrid cloud needs, Alibaba Cloud launched the new DBStack (based on Kubernetes) which can bring native cloud database systems to enterprise on-premise systems. With DBStack, businesses that are not yet ready to fully migrate to the public cloud can still safely enjoy the benefits of a public cloud in their on-premises system environment, strengthening the digitization process in the finance, transportation, and telecommunications industries.

Environmentally friendly cloud computing system

Alibaba Cloud launches a new energy saving solution for corporate customers in energy consumption management and carbon footprint reduction. Leveraging Alibaba Cloud's data analytics and machine learning technologies, this solution offers a set of tools to help customers track carbon emissions, analyze energy consumption, predict power generation from new energy sources, and receive recommendations for carbon emission reduction plans and related trading mechanisms.

To continue to drive this collaboration, Alibaba Cloud has also opened sourced PolarDB-X (MySQL- native distribute database) and AI products including DeepRec and Proxima, for developers to enjoy the benefits of cloud native creation, database distribution, and search and advertising services. powered by AI.

Apart from unlocking the code, Alibaba Cloud is also launching Alibaba AI, an integrated digital intelligence and AI platform that provides out-of-the-box settings for enterprises to manage their smart assets in a simple, secure and efficient way. One-stop cloud native systems offer a range of AI and digital products, from intelligence production, storage, analysis and development to management, to help businesses capture and capitalize on the new growth opportunities that digital transformation presents.

Powered by the computing power of Alibaba Cloud, companies engaged in fashion design, medical research, and media, have used this platform and demonstrated the potential of their digital intelligence.
